The concept of liminal spaces in the context of our soul’s evolution on Earth has been on my mind lately. Personally, I feel like I am on the brink of dramatic changes, though what they are remains unknown to me. At a collective level, we are experiencing an astrological and energetic shift that has many people feeling uneasy, fearful, and anxious. As humans, we are often haunted by the unknown, due to our evolutionary conditioning.
Astrology, Cycles, and the Power of Pausing
Astrology teaches us that the universe works in cycles. As above, so below—our souls also evolve in periods of ups and downs and spaces in-between. In a culture of productivity and the pressure to conform to the success-economy, the sacred act of pausing is revolutionary. The energetic tension may continue to rise, with conflicts, the U.S. election, social unrest, and economic uncertainty. Yet, astrology and history remind us that there is light at the end of the tunnel, even if it takes years to reach it.
Collective Anxiety and the Fear of the Unknown
Last week, I attended a lecture by Master Astrologer Rick Levine, where he spoke about the outermost planets changing signs within the next year, most notably Pluto, creating an energetic tension that we are already feeling. (You can watch the replay of his lecture here.) This tension has been expanding over the past few years, especially since 2020. Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, is finishing a 20-year cycle, and we must brace ourselves for its final act over the next two months before it moves into Aquarius in December.
Rick described a theory for this collective anxiety, tying it to Pluto’s story, and explained that humans fear the unknown because, at some level, we associate it with death. Regardless of evidence or theories around near-death experiences and reincarnation, we can mostly all agree that we really don’t know what happens when we die. This fundamental uncertainty is what scares us on an unconscious level, making it uncomfortable to exist in a liminal space between what was and what is yet to come.
Navigating Liminal Spaces: Reflection and Surrender
These void spaces can be hard to avoid. Rick later mentioned something profound in his lecture that provided a sense of peace in navigating this unknown space in my own life. He said that sometimes we are given this time to essentially sit and do nothing. Those weren’t his exact words, but the idea made sense to me. During the Solar Eclipse in Libra a few days ago, I received a similar intuitive message: do nothing. These in-between periods can serve as a space for reflection, rest, and spiritual contemplation. We can not only reflect on our fear of the unknown and why we feel this anxiety in ourselves, but we can also surrender to it and allow God (Universe, Spirit, etc.) to take control.
Embracing Uncertainty and the Path Toward Love
On an individual level, it is important to embrace these times of uncertainty, strengthen your faith in a bigger picture, and continue working on your soul’s path toward love. It is truly only through love that we can expand consciousness on this planet. It is in these moments of surrender and reflection that we find our true strength, opening the door for both personal and collective transformation.
